Oriya Wedding Rituals
An Oriya wedding begins with the Jayee Ankulo ceremony where the wedding invitation cards are distributed. This is followed by a holy bath and application of turmeric on the bride's body through the Mangan tradition. The next ritual is the Diya Mangula puja were the bride worships the Devi and offers bangles, saree, toe ring and sindoor. Barajatri refers to when the groom arrives with his wedding party. The bride then takes a ceremonial bath known as Baadua Pani Gadhua custom. At the time of the wedding, the Kanyaddan ritual is preferred. This is followed by the Haatha Ghanti custom wherein the bride and groom take 7 rounds across the sacred fire with the presence of hymns and shlokas.
